Project Summary
This project has seen the development and implementation of a national spatial data infrastructure, enhancing the capacity of geo-spatial/GIS technology expertise for Malta. The project constitutes the creation of a strategic approach to spatial data, creation of critical base datasets, as well as enabling a legislative and mentality shift in terms of exchange and access to data. MUZA is Malta’s new museum of art and flagship project for Valletta’s 2018 European Capital of Culture. The INVEST project has created the physical infrastructure needed for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in secondary schools in Malta and Gozo. The investment involved the setting up of seventy-eight VET labs in thirteen schools in Malta and Gozo, converting laboratories into specialized labs in the areas of Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Hospitality, Health and Social Care, Agribusiness, Retail, Textiles and Fashion, Hairdressing and Beauty, and Media Literacy. The project consisted of the commissioning of a new twin-engine fixed wing aircraft similar in type to B200, and in mission systems capable of conducting and supporting border control missions. This project has improved the AFM’s operational availability, capability and sustainability of the fixed-wing fleet and enables the AFM to continue effectively patrolling the EU maritime blue borders, both by day and by night, and in support of other EU border-related missions. The project led to the conservation and restoration of rubble walls within the ‘Outside Development Zone’ of Siggiewi, with the delineated sites situated in areas of high landscaping context. The project contributed to the general landscape and the conservation of Malta’s rural heritage, whilst contributing to the prevention of soil erosion, enhancing soil areas which could be used for crops and other agricultural vegetation. The beneficiary is a young active full-time farmer tilling 1.32 hectares of land in Imġarr, Malta with the main scope of supplying fresh vegetables at the Pitkali market. His farm holding is based on the production of multiple crops including greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, melons, cucumbers and marrows, as well as outdoor cultivation of melons and other green crops. Project Summary
The beneficiary is a part-time farmer who works his fields for his own consumption. Through this project the beneficiary reconstructed rubble walls along the perimeter of the field so that it can become functional in the restriction of soil erosion and the prevention of topsoil loss from this agricultural holding. This project had the aim of rehabilitating the Xewkija Windmill, making it functional by reinstalling a milling mechanism and undertaking other related structural improvements. Although the windmill is situated on Gozo’s main road, its potential as a tourist attraction was untapped, given its previously derelict state. The National Flood Relief Project (NFRP) had the aim of addressing the flooding problem in Malta.
